More Info About Tiffany from the NY WFP Endorsement:

Tiffany Cabán is a queer Latina public defender who will work to end mass incarceration. Cabán has also pledged to stop prosecuting nonviolent crimes including drug possession, fare evasion, and sex work.

Queens deserves a District Attorney that is dedicated to fixing our broken criminal justice system, who will work hard to end mass incarceration, and rethink how the District Attorney’s office operates.

For the first time since 1974, residents of Queens will have a real contest for the election of a new District Attorney. Richard Brown will be stepping down from his office in June, opening the door for the first time in 45 years to challengers.

The winds of change are blowing in Queens today. Richard Brown and the antiquated Queens DA office have consistently refused common-sense reforms that would keep innocent people out of jail or stop low income people from being unduly penalized with low-level offenses with astronomically high bail. In every way, Richard Brown has shown himself to be a relic of an overly punitive past. We know that Queens deserves better.

Often overlooked on the ballot, the District Attorney actually has a large impact on the day-to-day life of a person.3 They’re the arbiters of our lives. They make determinations that range from how a criminal case will be initiated to how it will ultimately be resolved.

And in spite of her sitting amongst a field of so-called progressive reformers vying for the Queens DA office, as the only public defender in the race, Tiffany Cabán stands out.

For too long, the criminal justice system in our city has held people of color to one standard — and wealthy, white New Yorkers to another. Cabán has charted a new path during her campaign, pledging to use the District Attorney’s office to fight for racial, social, and economic justice.

NY Working Families Party Executive Director Bill Lipton said, “The Working Families Party has been fighting hard to pass bail reform, legalize marijuana, and win speedy trials — and with Tiffany Cabán, we can continue this fight to build a justice system that works for all of us.”
